Recently Google released chrometophone, an App Engine-based project that lets you send text or links from your Chrome browser to your Android 2.2+ phone. It comes in two parts: there’s the extension for your browser, and an app to install on your phone. Well, someone had the good sense to build a Firefox plugin to allow you to do the same. It’s called Fox to Phone, and it’s basically the same idea. Install the addon in Firefox, install the app on your phone, and you’re good to go.
I just gave it a test spin and it’s really nifty. I set the app on my phone not to automatically open the links, so instead they just show up in my notifications. I sent some text through and it goes straight into the clipboard on my phone; and I sent over a link to a map (via Google Maps) and it opened directly with the Maps app. Simple, easy, and free. Even if you don’t use it all the time, it seems worth it to set it up.
