Yes, it’s been a little more than three months since I’ve last updated. Life and work has gotten incredibly busy, and I don’t have nearly as much free time. Anyway, Steve Jobs’ passing today is such a big thing that I thought I’d write a bit.
Most people who know me know that I’m not a fan of Apple for a number of reasons. Having said that, I use a Mac at work, and for the development we do, it works quite well. But no matter what I think about the company, there’s no denying that Steve Jobs had a major impact on the world of technology. Without his vision, I don’t really think our current smartphones would be what they are. I don’t know what people would be carrying, but it obviously wouldn’t be the iPhone. MP3 players, rather well made (if pricey) laptops and desktops, ubiquitous stores in malls across the world – Apple is clearly a force to be reckoned with, and Jobs put the company where it is today.
Maybe it’s my desire not to have particularly bad karma, but it’s time to move on and leave Steve Jobs alone. He made his mark, and he left this world all too soon. I know a great many fanboys who are mourning him right now, and while I’m not ready for that sort of commitment, I do have to at least acknowledge his contributions and the void now left in the world.
